FAQs: Anti-wrinkle Treatment
What is an Anti-wrinkle Treatment?
Commonly known as Botox, which is simply the brand name for the active drug Botulinum Toxin Type A. Anti-wrinkle treatments relax muscles to smooth fine lines. The treatment injections use a highly purified protein (Botulinum Toxin Type A) that temporarily blocks the nerve signals from reaching specific facial muscles.
How long does it last?
On average, results last between 3 and 4 months. Factors like your metabolism, muscle strength, and lifestyle (e.g., high-intensity exercise or sun exposure) can influence longevity.
Is the treatment painful?
The procedure involves a series of very fine injections. Most clients describe the sensation as a minor "pinch" or a stinging feeling that lasts only a few seconds. No anesthesia is required, and the process is typically completed in 15–20 minutes.
For clients with sensitive skin or a lower pain threshold, we offer the option of a numbing cream to minimize discomfort.
What aftercare is needed?
Stay Upright: Do not lie flat or bend over for 4 hours. This ensures the product remains exactly where it was placed and doesn't migrate to unintended muscles.
Hands Off: Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas. Pressure can shift the product, which may lead to temporary eyelid or brow drooping.
Skip the Alcohol: Wait 24 hours before having a drink. Alcohol thins the blood and dilates vessels, which can cause or worsen bruising and swelling.
Keep Cool: Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and steam rooms. Excessive heat and increased circulation can flush the product out of the muscle before it fully binds.
Clean Skin: Wait until the following morning to apply makeup or heavy skincare to keep the injection points sterile.
Are there side effects?
Mild redness or swelling may occur and sometimes bruised at the injection site. These after-effects resolve naturally usually within a few days.
When will I see results after treatment?
Results start to appear within three to five days, with full effect by two weeks.
For Jawline Slimming & Non-Surgical Neck Lift, allow 4 weeks.
Why do I need a consultation first?
Anti-wrinkle injections are a prescription-only medicine (POM). A face-to-face consultation with our prescriber is required to assess your suitability and ensure the treatment is safe for you.
Is there any downtime?
There is virtually no downtime. You can return to your normal routine immediately, though we do recommend a few "aftercare" rules for the first 24 hours:
Avoid strenuous exercise.
Keep your head upright (don't lie flat immediately after).
Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area.
Skip the sauna or steam room.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Avoid Blood Thinners: Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and supplements like Fish Oil for 7 days. These increase blood fluidity, which can lead to unnecessary bruising.
Note: Always consult your GP before pausing prescribed medication.
Limit Alcohol: Avoid alcohol for 24–48 hours before your visit. Alcohol dilates blood vessels, increasing the risk of swelling at the injection sites.
Skin Prep: Pause Retinal or exfoliating acids 2 days prior to ensure the skin barrier is calm and not irritated before treatment.
I have a special event coming up. When should I book?
Weeks 1–2: It takes roughly 14 days for the protein to fully relax the muscles and for the skin to smooth out.
Week 2: We invite you for a follow-up review to ensure your results are symmetrical and as desired.
Weeks 3–4: By this stage, any minor bruising has faded and the treatment has settled into its most natural, refreshed state.
FAQs: Polynucleotides
What are Polynucleotides?
Polynucleotides are injectable biostimulators made from highly purified DNA fragments. Unlike traditional treatments that simply coat or "fill" the skin, polynucleotides work at a cellular level to repair damaged tissue, boost collagen production, and improve skin quality from the inside out.
How do they work?
They act as "messengers" for your cells. When injected, they stimulate fibroblasts (the cells responsible for skin structure) to produce more collagen and elastin. They also have powerful anti-inflammatory properties and help the skin retain its own natural moisture.
Is there any downtime?
Downtime is minimal. You may experience:
Small, visible bumps at the injection sites (usually disappear w/in 24–48 H)
Mild swelling or redness.
The possibility of minor bruising, especially in the delicate eye area.
How many sessions are required?
Regenerative medicine is a journey. For best results, a course of 3 treatments spaced 3–4 weeks apart is typically recommended. Results develop gradually as your collagen stores replenish.
Are they the same as Dermal Fillers?
Fillers add volume and "plump" a specific area physically.
Polynucleotides do not add artificial volume; they improve the actual health and thickness of your skin. They are often called "biological primers."
Are there any contraindications?
Because the DNA fragments are ethically sourced from fish, this treatment is not suitable for those with a severe fish or seafood allergy.
It is also not recommended for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Why are they so popular for the eye area?
The skin around the eyes is the thinnest on the body. Polynucleotides are ideal for this area because they:
Strengthen the skin to reduce "crepiness."
Improve microcirculation to help fade dark circles.
Reduce fine lines (crow's feet) without the risk of puffiness or "water retention" that can occur with hyaluronic acid.
What other areas can be treated?
While the eyes are a primary focus, they are highly effective for:
Full face rejuvenation (glow and firmness).
Neck and décolletage (thin, sun-damaged skin).
Scarring (including acne scars).
The backs of the hands.
FAQs: Dermal Fillers
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable, gel-like substances used to restore lost volume, smooth lines, and soften creases. Most modern fillers, including those we use at Aesthetique, are made of Hyaluronic Acid (HA)—a sugar naturally found in your skin that holds a thousand times its weight in water to keep you looking hydrated and youthful.
How do they work?
As we age, our bodies produce less collagen and elastin. Fillers act as a "support system" beneath the skin, physically lifting the tissue to fill in wrinkles or adding volume to areas like the lips and cheeks that have thinned over time.
How soon will I see results?
Results are immediate. You will leave your appointment seeing a visible difference in volume and smoothness.
However, please allow 2 weeks for the filler to fully "settle" and for any minor swelling to completely subside to see the final, polished result.
Are the results permanent?
No. Because they are made of natural substances, your body will eventually break them down and absorb them.
Are there side effects?
Mild redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site is normal and typically resolves within a few days. The filler will fully integrate with your tissue over the course of 2 weeks.
To minimize the risk of bruising and ensure the best canvas for your treatment:
1 Week Before: Avoid blood-thinning supplements (Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Garlic) and non-essential medications like Aspirin or Ibuprofen.
Note: Always consult your GP before pausing prescribed medication.
48 Hours Before: Refrain from alcohol and stop using "active" skincare (Retinols/Acids) on the treatment area.
Dental Work: Ensure no dental procedures or vaccinations are scheduled within 2 weeks of your appointment.
On the Day: Arrive with a clean face and stay well-hydrated.
Does the treatment hurt?
The fillers we use contain Lidocaine (a local anaesthetic) to numb the area during the injection. Most patients describe the feeling as a quick pinch or a pressure sensation.
What should I do before my treatment?
Special Event Planning: When should I book?
If you are preparing for a wedding, milestone birthday, or photoshoot, timing is key to ensuring a soft, settled result.
The "Golden Window": We recommend booking your treatment 3 to 4 weeks before a significant event.
Why wait? While results are instant, it takes roughly 14 days for the Hyaluronic Acid to fully integrate with your skin tissue and for any micro-swelling to subside.
First-Timers: If this is your first treatment, we suggest booking 6 weeks in advance. This allows time for a complimentary 2-week review and any minor "tweakments" to perfect your look.
What aftercare is needed?
Following these steps ensures your filler settles perfectly:
First 6–12 Hours: Do not touch, rub, or apply makeup to the treated area. Stay upright and avoid bending over.
First 48 Hours: Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and extreme heat (saunas, steam rooms, or sunbeds).
Sleeping: Sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated for the first 1–2 nights to help reduce any morning swelling.
Wait for the "Settle": Do not have facials, chemical peels, or laser treatments for at least 2 weeks post-injection.
Goggles/Eyewear: If you had filler near the cheeks or nose, avoid heavy glasses or swimming goggles that rest on the treated area.
FAQs: Collagen Lift
What's a Collagen Lift?
It's a non-surgical, anti-ageing treatment that uses Radio Frequency (RF) technology for skin tightening, firming, and rejuvenation on both the face and body.
Here are the key points about the treatment:
It uses a ceramic wand to deliver high-energy radio waves deep into the skin's tissues. This heat causes the existing collagen and elastin fibers to shorten, providing an immediate tightening effect.
The heat also stimulates the body's natural production of new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid over time, which helps to plump, smooth, and firm the skin.
Its been described as relaxing, similar to a hot stone massage, with no downtime required.
How does it work?
During the treatment, a ceramic wand is moved over the skin, emitting radio frequency waves. These waves:
Realign elastin fibres, providing an immediate tightening effect.
Stimulate new collagen, which plumps and firms the skin over several months.
Boost hyaluronic acid production, improving skin hydration and texture.
When will I see results?
You will often see an instant visible lift after just one session due to the immediate contraction of elastin fibres. However, the best results are cumulative. Your skin will continue to improve for up to 3 months after your final session as new collagen matures.
For long-lasting results, we typically recommend a course of 6 treatments. These are best performed once or twice a week to keep the collagen-building process active.
Are there any contraindications?
While safe for most, this treatment is not suitable for individuals with:
A pacemaker.
Metal plates or pins in the treatment area.
Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
What aftercare is needed?
To get the most out of your treatment:
Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to help the detoxification process.
Protect: Use a high-quality SPF to protect your new collagen from UV damage.
Avoid Heat: For 48 hours, avoid saunas, steam rooms, and very hot showers.
What should I wear for my appointment?
We recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the treatment area.
Face & Neck: Opt for a wide or V-neck top so we can easily treat the neck area.
Body: Wear loose-fitting clothes (like leggings or a button-down) that are easy to move or remove.
Jewelry: Please remove all metals/ jewelry (necklaces and earrings) before your session, as these can interfere with the radio frequency wand.
Note: We use a conductive gel during the treatment, so we suggest avoiding delicate silks or "dry clean only" fabrics just in case!
FAQs: Skin Boosters
What are Skin Boosters?
Skin boosters are injectable treatments—usually formulated with Hyaluronic Acid (HA)—designed to deliver deep-level hydration. They aren't meant to change your face shape; they are designed to give you a "lit-from-within" glow, improve elasticity, and smooth out fine surface lines.
How do they differ from Polynucleotides?
Skin Boosters (Hydration Focus): Act like a sponge, pulling water into the skin for an immediate "plump" and dewy finish.
Polynucleotides (Repair Focus): Act like a biological signal, telling your cells to fix themselves and grow new tissue.
Will they make my face look puffy?
No. Unlike traditional dermal fillers, skin boosters have a very fluid consistency. They spread evenly under the skin rather than staying in one spot to add volume. You’ll look refreshed.
What can I expect to see?
The "Glow": A visible increase in skin radiance and luminosity.
Smoothness: A reduction in "crepey" skin and fine dehydration lines.
Elasticity: Skin that feels firmer and "snaps back" more easily.
The treatment usually takes about 20–30 minutes. We can apply a numbing cream beforehand.
When do the results show up?
You may see a "boost" in hydration within 48 hours, but the full effect—when the skin starts producing its own extra collagen in response—usually peaks at 3–4 weeks.
How long do they last?
Depending on the specific brand and your lifestyle (hydration, sun exposure, smoking), results typically last between 6 to 9 months.
Is there downtime?
Downtime is minimal, but you should expect:
Tiny Bumps: Small "blebs" at the injection sites that look like bee stings. These usually vanish within 24 hours as the product absorbs.
Bruising: Occasional minor bruising
How long does it take?
What aftercare is needed?
To get the best results, avoid the following for 24–48 hours:
Strenuous exercise (sweating can irritate injection sites).
Saunas, steam rooms, and hot power showers.
Applying makeup (to prevent infection).
Alcohol (which can increase the risk of bruising).
